Hard Wire Kit not working

Travis Hale (Trav Dot To)
@Travis Hale (Trav Dot To)

I installed the hard wire kit in my car and it was working fine for a few days but it has since stopped working, the dash cam works fine (I confirmed through connecting to a USB C charger, and also the cable for the hard wire kit works fine but the kit itself doesn’t.

I checked resistance of both the fuses in the hard wire kit and they are fine, and the earth is fine but the kit is not.

Could you please give me an email address so I can touch base to do more troubleshooting and get you to replace the hardwire kit if required.

Thanks

Hi Travis, Why do you think it doesn't work as intended?

The dash cam never turns on, even when the ignition is running, nor does the parking mode work (but it did before). I assume the intended function of the hard wire kit is to turn the dash cam on when the car is running hence why I think it’s broken lol.

No lights come on when the ignition is on in the dashcam, but if I power it from a USB C charger it does turn on hence me thinking the problem lies with the hard wire kit.

As mentioned before, it was working but stopped after a few days.

Thanks!

Also to clarify, battery is not low either so that should not be why it’s not working. Can’t recall the voltage but it’s about 80-90% charged battery (say 12.6V for example).

Thanks for the info @travis.

Do you get a blinking orange light?

Could you please confirm your firmware is v1.14 and above?

Firmware is latest version (updated other day), no blinking light on the dride, basically almost seems like no power is being delivered.

If you unplug and then plug back does to turn on?

Can you confirm you've connected the battery and ignition properly?

Unplugging and plugging back in does nothing (both at the hard wire kit, and each of the other connections. Hard wire kit is connected properly as it was working before, ground works fine, and I used a multi meter to confirm battery is always powered, and ignition connection only comes on when accessory on / ignition is running.

I tried a few different fuse locations and. I real difference still does not work in multiple Locations. I know the earth tap is fine as I can measure from the fuse box to ground from that connection.

Side note, are you going to have double fuse units when you do the rear camera, as seems somewhat inefficient to have to tap four fuses when that happens.

Thank you for the image travis, We will arrange a shipment of a replacement fusebox adapter to see if it will fix the problem. Could you please email support mentioning this thread? (hello@dride.io)

We will probably refactor the fuse-box adapter a bit once we ship the Dride Mini, We're open for suggestions..

Thanks

I ended up cutting the hard wire kit cables, and connecting them to an aftermarket fuse tap which did the trick.

@henoch, I ended up finding a fuse tap kit off ebay which suited my car, it basically just has a fuse tap on one end and female terminals on the other, I cut the hard-wire kit from Dride, and joined it into the fuse tap kit I got from ebay and it worked fine.

The fuse tap kit I got was SIMILAR to this https://www.ebay.com/itm/234976721774?itmmeta=01HYHZ8WRQA18YV51Q05D7B1SB&hash=item36b5b43b6e:g:XnIAAOSwbOJkPaFU&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4LLN9EDLlaRKq7oX2FT86WMQi%2Bo1Jj946KJCaahv18zfndQkbwYk8Y3DHfgtHAskr1yDzVdpnVLdDBkSJmVrcJEYJ3LayjQukFfdqEhC945%2FKY1V1342jfEgUetdwRpgez9KlSooOYuROeIIV7raaThznsoPgjEq22zcg7zmQk5aiRFpoIbQYaijdLpmBdUu77grLeytbVzYzLJj70OYZWGDE2k2rUMpsow05SvE%2B3a3hxurZXVqYTW06JAJ22ZQZja0unQ4rbkQtqr7tnQWVAjqpCXPVbh2nyX7WpZSp7zQ%7Ctkp%3ABFBMuMyjv_Rj

Do note though, it was that style but not necessary that listing, also different cars have different fuse types so you would need to make sure you get the right type for the car you have (I got the wrong type for my car initially).
